Oak
Solid oak wood flooring is custom milled from white and/or red oak boards, or oak tank staves. Tank staves provide high grade material, mostly CVG as knots would cause leaking in the tanks.
We also carry ready-made oak Tongue-and-Groove flooring and paneling of a few varieties. The Cumberland oak is solid oak with a rougher, circle-sawn finish, good for paneling or rough flooring.
Kentucky horse fence: the black substance on the wood is a special non-toxic coating that discourages the horses and other livestock from chewing the oak planks. While you can purchase the wood “as is”, we have found planing off the black coating allows the oak underneath to shine through.
Our Sutter Homes tongue & groove is made of engineered wood backing with ⅛” oak veneers from the wine tanks’ staves, with some of the oak still stained from the wine. Horizontal dowel holes, wine staining, knots, and drilled-out knots filled with dowels are present. Boards with dowel holes are best suited to paneling.
We also carry a limited stock of oak in slabs, timbers, boards, and tank staves that can be milled to spec.
